Skipping Christmas

So what is Skipping Christmas? Well, it’s a book written by the American author John Grisham. The two main characters in the book decides not to celebrate  Christmas, which will have some consequences.

Their daughter, Blair has taken a job as a voulonteer in Peru.  Luther, the man in the house, is so fed up with all the commercial stunts that comes along with X-mas.Instead they have plans to go on a Caribbean cruise I Mr and Mrs Krank live in a community with very strict traditions. Many of their neighbours tries to make Luther decorate his house, buy  a tree and give money to the poor.

Suddenly the book takes an abruptly turn when Blair phones home and tell her parents that she will be home for Christmas.

The book can be predictable sometimes which I am not always so fond of. Overall the book was one of the best english books I’ve ever read.

The Mobile Word Congress

Two weeks ago there were a Mobile Congress in Barcelona.  Developers such as Sony Ericsson and Nokia pressented their new phones.

The SE (Sony Ericsson) Xperia X1 was one of the highlight of the congress. The X1 is a smarphone. The X1 has a 3 inch touchscreen and a WASD-keyboard wich makes it easier to write emails and sms. The phone is running Microsofts latest mobile operating system windows mobile, so connecting the phone to your PC should not be a problem.

My favourite phone on the congress must be the new Nokia N96. It is the latest phone in the the N-series and its little brother the n95 sold very good. The phone has an internal memory of 16gb and a very good 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeis optics.

Halo: Fall Of Reach

Halo: Fall Of Reach is the prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, the award winning xbox and pc game. The book was published 2001 and the game was realed around november later that year.

The book is about Master Chief aka John 117 and how he became the soldier he is in the games.  There are two fighting factions in the story. The alien like Covenant and the scattered humans. The humans don’t want the Covenant to know the location of Earth however the humans have another stronghold, Reach. Reach is the main training planet for the human marienes and it has also the biggest shipyard. Almost all of UNSCs (United Nations Space Command) ships are manufactured there.

My thoughts of the book

I think that the book was absolutly the best english book i’ve red in my entire life.  It had everything, a good story and the writer managed to describe all the details so you could almost think you were there. The book is in english and if you want ti buy it you have to order it from Akademibokhandeln or any other bookstore. It take amproximately 10 days to get a book when you have ordered it

Lotus Symphony and Open Source

Lotus Symphony is an office program similar to Microsoft’s office program, but Symphony is a free open source program. Open Source means that its a free program and that anyone can access the source code and modify the program in any way you want. Lotus Symphony is recently released and is made by IBM, a veteran on the computer market. IBM has also made other programs such as Lotus Notes and the server interface Domino, which can be used to make a mail server for the Lotus Notes client, but it can of course be used to make other kinds of servers too.

Overall I think that Lotus Symphony is a great program both visually and technically. It has a lot of good features such as tabbing. No matter how many documents you are using at the moment you will only have one Symphony window open because all of your documents will be placed at the top so you can easily access them instantly. You can also use any MS word document so you don’t have to worry about different formats, but if you save a Symphony document as a word file you wont get all the great features that you maybe added to your document. The only big downside I can think of when I am using this program is that there isn’t any Swedish spellcheck, so I mainly use it when I am writing English documents. Hopefully they will fix this in a later version.

Prison Break

The new season of Prison Break has started!

The first episode of the third season was aired on monday earlier this week. The tv-serie is about Michael Scofield and his brother Lincoln Burrows. The two brothers are fugitives from the Fox River prison. Along with 6 other people they escaped because Lincoln was going to be executed for a murder he never commited.
